CGU Lord Lieutenant's Trophy Sunday 5th August 2018, Carlyon Bay GC

The Cape Cornwall GC pairing of Dean Goddard and Stephen Peplow yesterday won the Lord Lieutenant's Trophy at a sun drenched  and very well presented Carlyon Bay GC.

With 46 pairs playing a betterball stableford in warm air and firm ground conditions, Goddard and Peplow got home on countback as five other pairs finished on the same 42 point total. The Cape pair had a back 9 of 24 which held off the challenge of Ray Clark and David Walsh (Falmouth) whose back 9 was 23 and who in turn held off third placed Barry Knowles and Dave Rollason (Praa Sands) by virtue of a better back 6 holes.

Also on 42 and losing out on various countback elements were Doug Pedrick & Michael Wigley (Praa Sands &West Cornwall), another Cape Cornwall pair in Steven Beer & Tim Boyle, and Peter Mehigan & Nigel Webster (St Mellion).

This annual charity event is staged in support of St John Ambulance (Cornwall) and will again see a four figure sum handed to the organisation.

CGU Vice President Andrew Clotworthy thanked Carlyon Bay for hosting the event and congratulated all who had taken part. He commended the charity for it's work and life saving activities and before presenting prizes he suggested efforts should be made to make this popular event even stronger in the future.
