Cornwall get first Channel League Win Against Somerset

Alfie Chapman about to perfect the West Cornwall lag putt on 18

After narrowly losing their first 2025 Channel League match away to Dorset, the Cornwall Men's team

secured a comfortable home win against Somerset at West Cornwall on Sunday

With two players making their debut in the Mne's team the 10.5 - 4.5 win over Somerset was a welcome one. And without prejudice to some of the more regular players in the team the day belonged to those debutants, 15 year old Alfie Chapman  (St Enodoc) and the somewhat older host club member Ross Lawrance as playing together they secured a foursomes win on tough breezy conditions by 2 holes over 2024 SWCGA Champion Curtis Edwards and Tom Trowbridge. Not content with that both then registered singles wins - an emphatic 6&5 for Alfie over Tom Wring and a 2 up one for Ross over Wills House, this one with a great up and down from over the back of 18 - cemented with a 20 foot putt.

Pure delight on the faces of debutants Ross Lawrance and Alfie Chapman after their foursomes win

[Full report to follow from County Captain Adam Bridgewater]
