Nic, Ross and Others benefit Prostate Cancer Charity

There have been two great charity fundraising events benefitting the Prostate Cancer UK Charity in Cornwall this week.

Ross Lawrence & Nic Brewaeys at the end of their challenge

Firstly two West Cornwall Golf Club members Ross Lawrance and PGA Professional & CGU Academy Coach Nic Brewaeys completed an almost unbelievable 184 holes inside 24 hours in an epic challenge.

The pair started at 11:00 GMT on Sunday (22nd June) and played through the night at their home club and spent a total of 21 hours 45 minutes on the course, using floodlights and head torches whilst supported by club members acting as spotters. Their effort has already raised in excess of £6K for Prostate Cancer UK and at the same time the pair are hoping their adventure has set a new Guinness World Record. Their application s still being processed by Guinness World Records so they will not know if it is an official record for a while. The current world record was set in 2014 and stands at 180 holes.

Nic said he and Ross had covered about 56 miles (90km) each during the challenge leaving them feeling pretty tired. He said  "We basically pushed ourselves to our mental and physical limits to raise as much money as we can for Prostate Cancer UK. "We are delighted and we want to say thank you to the members of West Cornwall Golf Club who were with us every step of the way, ball-spotting and just being there for motivational support. "We couldn't have done it without them. It was very breezy and we were very unfortunate in the night. We had some very heavy rain showers, two of them that lasted 20 minutes each, so everybody out with us got soaking wet as well, which made it extra fun but we pushed through."

Very well done to Nic and Ross who fully deserve the acclaim they have received on local radio and media. You can still donate to their cause here

(L to R) Martin Edwards, Roger Hensby, Matt Sharman, Mark Downing & Jonathan Cude

Then yesterday at Launceston, three club members in Mark Downing, Matt Sharman and Jonathan Cude, played 4 rounds of golf starting at 5.00am completing their 72 holes comfortably before sunset.  Again this was a sponsored effort in aid of Prostate Cancer UK with the trio aiming to have raised somewhere in the region of £2000. For each round they were joined by a guest. First up was club PGA Professional Matt Tucknott. followed by club President Roger Hensby, then CGU President Martin Edwards and finally CGU Secretary Chris Pountney.

Well done to Mark, Matt and Jonathan! You can still donate to their cause here
