Cornwall U14s draw at Home to Wiltshire
In a Jack Roberts League fixture today at Trethorne GC, Cornwall U14s were held to a 6 - 6 draw by visitors Wiltshire
With morning foursome wins for Harry Faull & Oliver Lawrence and Will Dingle and Rory Julian plus a half from Oli Hanton and Theo Davies(, Cornwall led 2.5 - 1.5 at the lunch break.
In the 8 afternoon singles there were wins for Ethan Kinski, Lawrence and Hanton plus a half from Faull. With Wiltshire taking 4.5 points from those available, the overall match was drawn.

Cornwall U14s played their second match of the season in the Jack Roberts League as they hosted Wiltshire at Trethorne Golf Club. A cooler, breezier day compared to the practice round on Saturday welcomed the players as Mark Hanton started them off in the morning foursomes over the front 9 off the white tees.
With the pairings the same as the first match of the season Ethan Kinski and Rory Hudson (who welcomed his new brother the day before and was excited to show his teammates the photos) were off first against the strongest Wiltshire pairing but despite only shooting 2 over through 8 holes they lost 3&1.
Next out was Oliver Lawrence and Harry Faull who gelled with Oliver's long game and Harry's short game who avenged their loss in the first match to win 2&1.
Third match out saw St Enodoc's Will Dingle and Falmouth's Rory Julian play some good golf to win 3&1. With the match being evenly poised anything other than a loss in the final pairing was required to go in at lunchtime with a lead and that was provided by another St Enodoc/Falmouth pairing of Oli Hanton and Theo Davis who battled up the 9th to win the hole and claim a vital draw which gave Cornwall a 2.5-1.5 lead at lunch.
Heading into the singles needing 4 points for the victory we knew it would be a hard battle with every match Wiltshire had the better player on paper handicap wise but leading us out in handicap order was Ethan who despite being 2 down through the turn battled back for a fantastic 3&2 victory. Next out was Rory Hudson who again had a great battle and took his match up the 18th being 1 down but was unable to find that extra shot and halved the hole to lose 1 down.
Oliver Lawrence continued his impressive County season by claiming his 3rd victory out of 4 matches in a strong 4&2 win. His ball striking was exceptional especially off the tee leaving short iron shots into the green. Harry had a tight game with only 1 hole either way in it throughout the match and again showed resilience to win the last hole to halve his match and what turned out to be a decisive half point. Showing the spirit of this team was Will who was 4 down after 4 but dug deep to take it up the last hole being 1 down and if not for his 20ft putting hitting the hole bouncing and stopping inches from the hole which would have won it and halved his match he ended losing 1 down.
A rollercoaster of a match saw Oli Hanton all square through 9 and then 3 down through 13 but dug deep to win the next 4 to be 1 up going up the 18th and another hole win resulted in a 2 hole victory. That took Cornwall to 6 points and a minimum of a draw overall so it was down to the final two games to try and get another half point but unfortunately it wasn't to be with Rory Julian losing 3&2 and Theo losing 4&2 despite being 6 down with 6 to play.
I would like to thank Trethorne Golf Club for their hospitality and providing some great food to keep both sets of boys happy after both rounds of matches and a course that tested their abilities. The traditional speeches were done after the meals with Harry being the Cornwall captain for this match.
I would like to thank the parents for their continued support and help over the weekend and the players for representing the County with credit.
