Golf Returns on Wednesday - Additional Clarity

Monday 11th May 2020

CGU President Andrew Clotworthy last week promised a further message to clubs and their members today, not knowing the events which would take place in the interim period. He is though delighted with those intervening developments.

On Sunday night the Prime Minister indicated golf would be permitted to take place and this could be as a single player or with someone from the same household. Today the Government have provided additional information and clarity around the resumption of golf and we are pleased to say England Golf have just released a statement in which it states the following groupings will be permitted upon resumption of play:

  • Individuals playing golf on their own.
  • Two-balls comprising of individuals from different households
  • At the discretion of the golf club, members of the same household playing in two, three or four-balls.

Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to at all times.

The full England Golf statement can be read here

Previously England Golf released a set of frameworks for clubs to consider in the run up to resumption of golfing activity and we published these earlier.

Clotworthy said "We are obviously very pleased with this news. We have been in touch with England Golf throughout and I know they have, together with many golfing bodies and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf, worked very hard to reach the position we find ourselves in today. We are all grateful for their concerted efforts. It is now down to clubs and individuals to act responsibly and stick to the ongoing guidelines so that in time we may be able to get back to full golfing as we knew it .Please understand and be patient with our clubs who have been working with  limited resources and who are now facing  short notice about resuming play."
