Cornwall Team to Face Somerset

Monday 29th July 2019

Channel League Cornwall v Somerset Sunday 4th August 2019 Newquay GC

The Cornwall Men's team to face Somerset at Newquay GC on Sunday 4th August has been named by County Captain Ian Veale.

Without a win after their first three matches, Veale will be hoping this time to make home advantage count. In their only home fixture to date the Duchy were beaten by a strong Gloucestershire side at West Cornwall in early April this year. Yet again Veale has been forced to make changes in a season where for the Channel League he has arguably been unable to name his strongest team at any point. Notwithstanding both Tom Fox  and Sandy Kirton return to the side for their second outing of the year whilst junior Cameron Gurd makes his first Channel League appearance this year.

The side named is: Aaron Stephens (Newquay), Tom Fox (China Fleet), Josh Greenaway (St Enodoc), Cameron Gurd, Sandy Kirton (Perranporth), Joe Reynard, Steve Davies, George Leigh (Trevose), Kieran Faulkner (Looe) and Richard Jasper (Launceston). Veale has named a reserve in Truro's George Champion who reached the quarter finals in this year's County Championship. Champion will play if, as hoped, George Leigh is selected to represent England in the upcoming Boys Home Internationals, which take place at Ashburnham GC, Wales from 6th - 9th August..
