U18s lose to Dorset at Bude

Cornwall lost their final Roy Greenaway trophy match to Dorset at Bude yesterday with the final score 9.5 - 5.5 in favour of the visitors.

In testing weather conditions on the North Cornish coast, Cornwall U18s concluded their Greenaway season with a hard-fought match against Dorset U18s at Bude Golf Club, eventually falling short with an overall score of 5.5–9.5.
Despite the defeat, the match was played in great spirit, and the players demonstrated admirable resilience against torrential wind and rain throughout the day. A huge thank you goes to the Cornwall Golf Union for their continued support and organisation, and to Bude Golf Club for their warm hospitality and excellent hosting.
Dorset made a strong start, leading in three of the five matches through the opening five holes, with Cornwall holding the other two at all square. That momentum remained with the visitors for much of the session.

The team showed great grit and determination, with notable singles wins from Tiernan Wallwork, Bobby Godfrey, Charlie Emmett, and Kian Williams. Harrison Gurd also fought hard to earn a half point on the final hole.

While the result wasn’t in Cornwall’s favour, the team showed heart, skill, and sportsmanship under pressure, closing out the season with heads held high.
This fixture marked the final Cornwall U18s appearance for three long-serving players: Heath Coombes (Captain), Fred Kirkland, and Kian Williams. All three have made valuable contributions throughout their time with the county squad and will be missed both on and off the course.
