Duchy Fightback to Defeat Devon

The Cornwall Men's Team delivered a performance full of character and determination today on Day 1 of SWCGA Championship Week at the pristine Parkstone GC, Dorset. After a disappointing performance in the morning singles where they trfai;es 5-3 at lunch the team whitewashed Devon in the afternoon foursomes to register a 9-5 overall win.

Singles wins came from new County Champion George Leigh who beat Sam Dunn by the odd hole (and earned his first SW Week point) and Rob MacGregor who beat Jay Scott also by just the one hole. There were halves for stalwart Richard Jasper and a rejuvenated Josh Greenaway and these were important as the afternoon foursomes began with the Duchy needing a full 3 wins.

They went one better though and won all four games as Leigh and Jasper won 3&2, Joe Reynard & Matt Richards won 2 up, debutant Kieran Faulkner and Greenaway won 2&1 and tunrning round a 3 hole deficit MacGregor and Conor Wilson won 1 up.

In other Day 1 Results Gloucestershire beat Somerset and Dorset defeated Wiltshire.

Tomorrow Cornwall face Wiltshire with a 10.00 start
