Lee-Comyn & Naish Sweep to Foster Mitchell Win

Vicky Lee-Comyn and Club Captain Peter Naish from Perranporth GC were the winners of the 2018 President’s Invitation event staged at West Cornwall GC on Thursday.

In a 48 competitor field, representing 22 of the county’s 33 affiliated clubs, Lee -Comyn and Naish were presented with the prestigious Foster Mitchell Cups after returning an impressive 46 stableford points in the betterball event hosted by CGU President Mike Ellis.

On a very warm day and with the Lelant links in good condition but playing firm and tricky after a prolonged dry and hot period, Lee-Comyn and Naish made light work of creating their winning score. They even had the luxury of not scoring on one hole and only taking one point from the 1st, 5th and 17th holes. Around that though their performance was unrivalled as Naish made a birdie at the second to immediately redress the first hole bogey. Ten nett birdies followed along with a nett eagle for Lee- Comyn at the Par 4 14th.

Second place was claimed by Newquay Club Captain Dave Ball playing with Club Secretary Peter Batty. Their score of 45 was in itself excellent and with a good back 9 of 24 points , the pair were entitled to feeling they might have posted a winning score.

Third spot went to the Cape Cornwall pairing of Rob Atkinson and Stephen Peplow on 44.

CGU President Ellis welcomed all those present to the club and thanked West Cornwall for their outstanding hospitality, singling out Club Secretary Gareth Evans, Course Manager Keith Kemp and his team and the Caterers Andy and Cara Smith who had delivered their customary fine fayre, which included a drink and a pastie before playing and a post golf signature curry dish.
