CGU County Week Looms at Newquay!

Well County Week 2016 is almost upon us and the Cornwall Golf Union is really looking forward to being at and enjoying the hospitality Newquay Golf Club and its members have to offer between 15th and 21st May 2016.

Just to give some further information regarding the week and reinforcing the changes to the structure of the week as previously announced:

Sunday 15th May 2016 Royal Cornwall Goblets

Some 220 players are scheduled to participate in this curtain raiser 18 hole foursomes stableford with a maximum handicap of 18. Provisional start times have been circulated to clubs who should bear in mind there may be minor changes to them.

Monday 16th May 2016 Founders & Seniors Cups

As of today some 111 players have entered the competition. To clarify this event comprises two competitions running alongside each other on the day. Both are 18 hole stablefords with a maximum handicap of 18. If you are a senior you can play in both. If not a senior then you are restricted to the Founders Cup competition. There are still some 54 spots available so if you wish to enter please do so. The online entry facility has been extended through to Fri 13th May. If you want to play in just the one the fee is £15 or you can play both for £20.

Tuesday 17th May 2016 Royal Cornwall Challenge Cup

As of today some 122 players are entered to play in this pairs betterball competition maximum handicap of 18, 90% allowance which costs just £20 per pair. We can still accommodate another 44 pairs so again if you want to play please enter. The online entry facility has been extended through to Fri 13th May.

Wednesday 18th May 2016 The Cornwall Amateur Championship

This has a full field of 72 players playing two rounds and with the top 32 qualifiers moving into the subsequent singles matchplay knockout stages. Conor Wilson (Perranporth) is the defending County Champion.

Thursday 19th May 2016 The Cornwall Amateur Championship/Western Morning News Challenge Cup

The top 32 in the Amateur Championship will be reduced to 16 after the morning’s play and then reduced to 8 come the end of Thursday.

Also running this day is the WMN CC Three Man Team with 2 scores to count . Maximum handicap of 18 ¾  allowance. We can accommodate 29 teams of 3 and currently have 25 so there are 4 spaces available (0950, 1000, 1010 and 1630). If you wish to enter please do so.

The online entry facility has been extended through to Fri 13th May and the cost is £30 per team of 3.

Friday 20th May 2016 The Cornwall Amateur Championship/ Scratch Club Championship/Handicap Club Championship

The last 8 in the Amateur Championship will be reduced to 4 after the morning’s play and then reduced to the two finalists come the end of Thursday.

Scratch Club Championship (known as A team previously) teams will play Friday morning and afternoon commencing with 16 teams and reducing to 4 by the end of Friday

Handicap Club Championship (known as B Team previously) will commence with 8 teams on Friday afternoon reducing to 4 by the end of the day.

Saturday 21st May 2016 The Cornwall Amateur Championship Final/ Scratch Club Championship/Handicap Club Championship

The Amateur Championship Final will take place over 36 holes commencing at 1002 and 1426.

Scratch and Handicap Club Championship semi finals commence from 0730 and 0826 respectively. The finals of these commence at 1130 and 1226 respectively.

Presentation of all the week’s trophies will take place after the completion of the Amateur Championship Final and it is expected week long prizewinners will attend. CGU County President Glyn Rowett and recently installed Newquay GC Captain Nigel Eustice will be delighted to see as many as possible at the ceremony.
