The South West team were narrow 8-7 winners in their annual match versus The Midlands which took place at Burnham & Berrow GC on Friday.
SWCGA and ex Cornwall County Captain Steve Rickard's team included two Cornish County players in his 10 man team and both Rob MacGregor (Tehidy Park) and Conor Wilson (Perranporth) played their part in the overall win with a fine foursomes win although both lost their singles matches by the one hole.
The morning foursomes went the way of the South West team as they built a good lead of 4-1.
Josh Hilleard (Somerset) & Tom Robson (Dorset) were defeated by Matthew Fieldsend & Jack Gaunt 7 & 6, Jack Charman (Wiltshire) & Jake Burnage (Devon) narrowly won by 1 hole against Patrick Ruff & Louie Pett, Haider Hussain & Andy Hale (Gloucestershire) won 6 & 4 against Chris Nugent & Josh McMahon, Ben Amor & Ali James (Wiltshire) were winners by 3 & 2 versus Ashley Mason & Coby Cartwright whilst the Cornish duo of Wilson & McGregor delivered a 5 & 3 winagainst Matthew Hogg & George Bloor.
The afternoon singles however saw the Midlands Golf Union put up a severe challenge winning the first two singles matches and halving the next two to ensure a nail biting finish with the South West just hanging on to run out winners by that single point.
