Hosts Bude victorious in A Team Championship

Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club's A Team claimed a memorable victory on their home course as they won the A Team Club Championship for the first time in over 40 years. The team are pictured above (Back Row L to R: Gary Stone, Mark Jenkins, Ryan Curtis, Joe Miles, Adam Curtis. Front Row L to R: Lawrie Bridges, Rundle Hatcher, Danny Vanstone and Simon Greatbatch)

After wins against Newquay, Carlyon Bay and a semi final victory over Perranporth they reached the final against Tehidy Park. The latter had wins over Truro, St Enodoc before facing Looe who had been surprise winners over both Trevose and West Cornwall. Looe however ran out of steam in their semi with Tehidy who ran out 3-0 winners.

Bude had rung the changes over their 4 matches and used 8 diffreent players whilst Tehidy stuck to their pairings throughout albeit with some changes in the order of them.

The final was played in continuing very windy conditions which blighted the start of County Week 2015 but the final still delivered some excellent golf.

For Bude, both the pairings of Ryan Curtis with Danny Vanstone and Adam Curtis with Simon Greatbatch, claimed victory on the 18th hole to see the club home despite the third pairing of Lawrie Bridges and Mark Jenkins were beaten by the redoubtable brothers Simmons. Richard and Peter.

Vanstone and Ryan Curtis beat Ian Veale and Tom Rowe whilst Adam Curtis and Greatbatch beat Rob MacGregor and Ross Lawrence.

Bude Captain Bridges, who also used Joe Miles and Gary Stone in earlier rounds, was ecstatic in his acceptance speech paying tribute to his team.

CGU President David Inch presented the trophy to Bridges and Bude Club Captain Rundle Hatcher.

County Week continues today with the 36 hole qualifying for the County Amateur Championship.
