Tehidy Park Juniors are Champion Club

Tehidy Park's juniors gained another win for the club yesterday as their emerging youngsters won the Junior Champion Club qualifier and in so doing go on to represent Cornwall in the national final at Woodhall Spa in August this year. The event took place at The Point at Polzeath GC which has seen considerable change for the better of late both on and off the course and proved a popular venue for both competitors, junior organisers parents and supporters alike.

The trio of Tom Chapman, Stephanie Curnow and Amy Butt (pictured above L to R) all played consistently well in the individual stableford format where there scores are combined to create a team total. Chapman playing off 7 got the ball rolling with an impressive 35 points on the course which was presented in good condition despite heavy rain over the preceding 24 hours. The damp underfoot conditions meant no run and the course was playing its full length. Following Chapman Stephanie Curnow playing off 24 registered an excellent 37 points and when Amy Butt came in with a very credible 32 the Tehidy Team were home and dry with a team total of 104,

Second place went to last years winners Truro on 101 with their scores made up 30 from Joe Reynard, a solid 32 from 4 handicapper Jake Finn and the highest individual score of the day From Emily Wilson with 39.

A further 8 points back on 93 were Killiow (Jamie Crocker 36, Ben Cousins 34 and Ross Thomas 23)

CGU Juniors President Phil Linaker congratulated all the juniors and thanked Jeremy and Eva Davies the owners of The Point at Polzeath for their warm welcome and the hosiptaility extended. He wished them well in their endeavours at The Point.
