[County Captain Adam Bridgewater reports]
Cornwall travelled to High Post Golf club in Wiltshire for the final Channel League match of the 2025 season. High Post was in excellent condition with greens as good as you will find anywhere, enabling low scoring in all matches.
Jamie Greet and Kyle Fraser (both Mullion) led the foursomes and were unlucky to lose on the last hole. Joseph Ibbs~George (Perranporth) and Kieran Dixon (St Mellion) battled bravely and stole a half after being four down at one point.
Youngster Tiernan Wallwork (Tehidy Park) continued his great form this year with his partner George Law (Perranporth) easing into the lead and giving their opponents no chance to fight back, and a birdie three at the last secured a two up win.
This was to be the last points of the morning as Ed Sherlock and Josh Chaplin (both Mullion) and Adam Bridgewater (Launceston) and Joab Atkins (St Mellion) both lost close games whilst under par. The score at lunch then was Wiltshire 3.5 - 1.5 Cornwall.
The singles required a fast start and Greet got the ball rolling with a win, tying him for the best record in the Channel League this year with Sam Crocker, who was away representing Carlyon Bay in the English Champion Club competition in York .
Law succumbed 4&3, but Bridgewater with four birdies on the front nine holes never looked back and beat rival skipper Ali James 3&2 - a fight back looked on the cards.
Ibbs-George lost on the last hole in a high quality game followed by Wallwork who was squeezed out 2&1.
Fraser gave a glimmer of hope with a fine 4&2 victory but the match was secured by Wiltshire as they won three of the last four matches with Dixon beaten 3&2, Chaplin 4&3 and debutant Atkins 5&4. The irrepressible Sherlock won his game 4&3 making the overall score respectable.
The match finished 9.5 - 5.5 to Wiltshire, a well played game with many players under par and still losing.
The Winter Series starts in October at Bowood Park - please get your entries in.
Wishing you all happy golfing for the remainder of the year and see you all soon.
