Falmouth Juniors are the (delayed) 2024 George Bolitho Shield Winners
The delayed 2024 George Bolitho Shield final took place by kind permission at Trevose G&CC last Sunday and saw Falmouth juniors pitted against those from St Enodoc. Organisers permitted players who were eligible to play in 2024 to continue and participate in the final even though they may have escaped the junior ranks.
And it was Falmouth who came out on top but not without drama as extra holes were necessary to separate the two teams.
Out first were the two 'adults' in Kai Dingle and Harry Drewett and the latter put Falmouth on the board with a 5&3 win. Alfie Chapman levelled things for St Enodoc with a 2 up win over Izzy Wakeling but Falmouth gained another point when Theo Davies beat Jack Jolliff 5&4.
With Falmouth leading 2-1 all eyed now turned to the remaining matches - Bobby Godfrey for St Enodoc versus Rory Julian for Falmouth and Oban Robinson versus Aiden Jones. Both of these were level after18 holes.
Julian and Godfrey played on and halved the 19th but Jones won the first extra hole to give Falmouth the win.(3.5 - 1.5)
CGU Championship Committee Chairman Simon Harper was on hand to present the George Bolitho Shield to Falmouth. Both clubs thanked Trevose for hosting the final.
