Much Junior Mirth at Mawgan Porth

The fourth round of the ever-growing Cornwall Golf Junior Tour took place on Sunday 14th July 2024 at Mawgan Porth Golf Club. The previous three rounds had been held at Tehidy Park GC, Bowood Park and Truro GC respectively.

The Junior Tour at Mawgan Porth GC saw the youngest in golfing action

Junior golfers from all over the county enjoyed a warm and sunny afternoon playing a stableford competition over the front 9 holes of a well presented Mawgan Porth course. In addition to this the Golf Access competition was also played by the up-and-coming golfers of the future. Conditions were perfect for good scores and the group certainly took advantage, producing some fantastic golf through the afternoon.

The 0-28 handicap category was won by Harry Gwinnell (Trevose) with 25 points. Harry was only 4 over par for those 9 holes playing off 25.7. Second was Pablo Beare (West Cornwall) with 20 points and third was the consistent Jesse Hosking (Mullion) with 18 points.

The 29 - 54 handicap category was close run with five players scoring 25 points or more. First and second places went to home club member Mason Farhall (Mawgan Porth) and Jenson Davis (Falmouth) who both scored an incredible 26 points, with Farhall pipping Davies on countback. Third place went to Olivia Tucker (St Austell) who was in the first group and scored 25 points, playing with Harry Charlton (Budock Vean) who also scored 25 points. Both golfers must have thought they had done enough to take the spoils. Charlton finished fourth on countback with one other player in his first event Harvey Sanders (Newquay) who finished 5th on countback from Charlton.

It was fun for everyone!

The Golf Access event finished in a tie for first place with Nellie Hosking (Mullion) and Aurelie Brewaeys (West Cornwall)  finishing with net 45's. Third place went to five-year-old Beauden Snell who was exhausted after playing the previous day in Bath in the American Kids Tour. He will be one to watch for across the county in the coming years. He lives for the game and has a great swing already.
