It has proved to be a tough day for the 9 man Cornwall team of U16s & U14s competing in the SWCGA Championship at Lansdown GC today.
Facing the 5 other counties in the region Cornwall finished bottom of the pile with an aggregate score of 581 (+84) over the 18 holes, some 31 shots behind winners Wiltshire.
With Joab Atkins pulling out Jay Dingle (St Enodoc) was drafted into the U16 team and he returned the Duchy U16s second best score an 82. Dingle was going along well through 15 holes but dropped 6 shots in his final 3.
Dingles score was though eclipsed by a 76 from Tiernan Wallwork (Tehidy Park). Despite opening with a treble bogey 7, 10 pars and two birdies saw him finish 5 over in 8th spot, five shots behind gross winner Reece Higgins (Broadstone) who shot a level par 71 off his 6 handicap. There is little doubt the rest of the team will be very disappointed with their scoring as on the day they just did not perform to their respective abilities.
The three U14 scores were led by Alfie Chapman who registered an 8 over 79 to finish 14th in the overall 54 man field and 6th best in the U14 category.
Team Scores (Best 7 from 9): Wiltshire (550), Gloucestershire (552) , Dorset (556), Somerset (562) , Devon (567) and Cornwall (581).
