Porthpean Golf Club Sold

Porthpean Golf Club, a proprietary club established in 1992, was put up for sale at the end of last year and now has a new owner.

The property, previously owned by Gary & Kathryn Tucker, was offered as a retirement sale and comprises an 18-hole, 5,253-yard, par 67 golf course with a clubhouse, which many will know has stunning views over St Austell Bay. The front nine plays though inland mature parkland/ woodland, with the back holes opening up to a coastal setting with those great views.

The new owner, Glyn Rowett, will be known to many in Cornish golfing circles, and intends to retain the Club’s membership ethos, whilst also investing in new facilities to commercialise the business.”

He said “We are delighted to complete the purchase of Porthpean Golf Club. The club has great potential and we have plans to further enhance the offering to our members and local community. I’m delighted that Mark Grieve has joined the club as Club Manager and will use his 30 years experience for the benefit of the club.”

Grieve has over 30 years of coaching experience and is driven by a passion to bring golf to all. His ingredients for an engaging golf lesson are simple: out on the golf course at the earliest opportunity, keep calm and always have a laugh whilst learning at the same time.

Mark is originally from Cornwall and  as an amateur, was the Under 18 No. 1 player for England Boys and very proud to captain the side way back in 1982. As a professional Mark played on the European Tour and won the individual Henry Cooper Pro/Celebrity tournament at La Manga in Spain in his early 20’s. With experience of coaching at all levels including a Walker Cup player and England International plus fellow professionals. Mark was previous Head PGA Pro at Calcot Park and ran both beginner and ladies academy programmes. He was also lead coach for the Berks, Bucks and Oxon County Junior Academy and Berkshire Girls.
