Golf Access Programme Underway.

Richard Bunch the CGU Development Officer and Director of Golf Access Simon Wood have started to visit the 20 Cornwall Clubs that have signed up to the CGU funded Golf Access programme.

The Golf Access programme is designed to take golfers of all ages from initial coaching and instruction to playing on a course. The progress is banded taking people from playing 3,6, 9 and up to 18 holes on a shortened course. The progress of golfers are recorded on the Locker Room platform. Once golfers have achieved the final band they are ready to attain a handicap and join a club.

Richard comments " The CGU have funded this initiative to ensure that we are best placed to take juniors and adults from coaching, driving ranges and other golfing facilities and get them playing golf. The programme gives a sense of structure and progression. If the Golf Access sessions are run correctly and with some enthusiasm they become a really good starting place for new golfers coming to the game. Most importantly the Golf Access sessions can generate inclusive social networks and new golfers progress together and form a golfing friendship from the off. To make this work we need our clubs to ensure they have committed PGA Professionals, Club Managers and Secretaries, that are supported by a group of Junior Organisers and volunteers."

Simon Wood adds " This is an exciting project to be involved in and the Golf Access team appreciate the opportunity to support golf development across the board in Cornwall. We have a proven success in other counties in particular in Devon in recent times where they achieved County of the year at the recent England Golf awards. We would like to achieve the same with Cornwall."

Richard continues " I am very keen to ensure that each of our affiliated clubs and other golfing facilities have a team of volunteers and organisers to support the clubs workforce to get people of all ages into golf. The more people we have actively working in a volunteer network supporting their home clubs the less of a workload it becomes. Spread the support and activity to a small amount of time each week/month makes life far easier in the busy world in which we now live. The old adage of 'Many Hands Make Light Work' rings very true."

The CGU are committed to growing the volunteer network across Cornwall. For further information and advice please contact Richard Bunch on 07958 - 262193 or by email on jdo.cgu2022@gmail.com
