Weather Continues To Impact

Once again over the past weekend the indifferent and seemingly relentless wet weather has impacted on golf in Cornwall.

The two Presidents Trophy semi finals, due to take place on Sunday 25th February were not completed. First, at Trevose, Perranporth and Falmouth got underway in heavy rain but were forced off the course as the rain rendered the greens unplayable. Then the match at Perranporth itself between Newquay and Truro saw the plug pulled as the course was closed. Arrangements will now have to be made in an effort to get the two matches played ahead of the scheduled 17th March finals day at Bude. With an already congested diary this may not be possible.

Also falling victim to the heavy rain was the County Captain's second Order of Merit event at St Enodoc where the county squad got underway but also had to retreat when a number of the greens became flooded. The image of Jared Mortimore sums up the golfers resignation to the forces of nature.

When our links courses unusually suffer in this fashion we are reminded of the serious impact the weather has already had on the parkland courses.
