County Juniors Celebrated at St Austell

Well, what a day we had on Saturday at St Austell as the achievements of the County Juniors was celebrated across the board!

Bringing together not only the 2022 winning junior teams but also their parents, the event was staged to acknowledge their successes during what was been a very good season.

40 juniors played 9 holes in 10 teams of 4 made up of an U18 team player, an U16, an U14 and a CLCGA Girl before all of them and a parent were fed and watered in the St Austell club's marquee.

Once fed CGU Juniors President Matt Tucknott and CGU President Andrew Clotworthy addressed a crowded marquee.

Tucknott congratulated the respective teams on their 2022 successes and started by referring to the GolfSixes competition which had seen an increase in participation from just 3 clubs to 9. One of the winning teams were St Austell GC and their success was duly acknowledged by all present. As part of the celebration day, Tucknott had delivered a coaching session to the group whilst the teams were on the course. Tucknott thanked St Austell Gc for their hospitality on a day when the club was also staging a well populated competition which meant over 300 people had been both on and off the course. The efforts of all the club staff were very much appreciated.

Clotworthy praised not only the efforts of the juniors but also those of their parents whom he thanked tor the support of the juniors. He also thanked Tucknott and the Junior Section for the considerable amount of work and hours they put in to staging coaching, inter county matches and competitions across the year.

A host of prizes were then presented but not before Maisie Drewett, celebrating her 18th birthday, had been chorused by the assembled mass.

It all came down to the final match when the Cornish girls won 3.5 – 1.5 against Wiltshire. Congratulations were voiced to their County Junior Organiser - Mel Nile - for her amazing organisation and dedication to the juniors. The girls were supported daily by their parents as well as County President, Jill Simmons, County Vice President, Mo Hammond and County Captain Vicky Lee Comyn.
