County U12s and Trevose in weekend action plus Junior Autumn Meeting

It was a busy September Sunday on the golfing front with the County U12s taking part on the Five Counties Championship, Trevose competing in the England Golf Champion Club Final and the Junior Autumn Meeting also being staged.

The U12s team under the guidance and safe hands of former County Champion Steve Chapman travelled to Wiltshire and had a practice round on Saturday afternoon at High Post GC just outside Salisbury.

After a good night’s rest and some more practice, the 6 man team took to the course with their counterparts from Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset and Devon.

In what turned out to be a mildly disappointing finish the Duchy team were to finish just the one shot off the pace as they totalled a nett 375 behind the winners Somerset (374) who themselves pipped second placed Dorset on a countback involving the 6th card.

And Competition Sunday for the Cornwall U12s

For Cornwall top nett performer was pocket dynamo Rory Hudson (West Cornwall) with a nett 71 which matched the best nett score of the day. Harrison Gurd (Perranporth) was one shot further back with a nett 72. Alfie Chapman (St Enodoc) returned a nett 76 whilst clubmate Bobby Godfrey and Harry Faull (St Mellion) both registered 78s. Ethan Kinski (St Mellion) returned a nett 83.

Steve Chapman was delighted with his charges saying ‘What a great couple of days away with these boys. They are a credit to the Cornwall Golf Union and were unlucky to lose by 1 shot. Cornwall golf is in safe hands’.
