One and All Delight as Harry Hall earns PGA Tour card

Harry Hall  - officially PGA Tour Bound!

Congratulations and well done to our very own Cornish hero Harry Hall who yesterday earned a full PGA Tour card. Harry will now be a rookie on the tour in 2022-23.

25 year old Harry was it seems always destined to make the grade having stared his golfing journey at a very early age as a member at West Cornwall Golf Club.

Hall cites being inspired by the club's wall of achievements which included reference to Phil Rowe, later to become one of Hall's coaches at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and who had plenty of amateur achievements including playing in the Walker Cup. Add to this Jim Barnes, who won the 1916 and 1919 PGA Championship, 1921 U.S. Open and 1925 Open Championship and is from the same club. Hall from that very early age wanted to follow in their footsteps.

A glittering amateur career was to follow for him with representation at every junior, Cornish Schools and men's level for the Cornwall Golf Union where he was held in the highest esteem. Hall was an integral member of Richard Simmons' English County Finals winning team when Cornwall lifted the trophy at Royal North Devon in 2014. This was followed with national recognition as he was selected for England, again at Boys and Men's levels.

Leaving English shores Hall Moved to the University of Nevada and Las Vegas and so continued the drive towards his ambition. Hall's time in Las Vegas was equally successful as he achieved the sixth-lowest scoring average in school history and was selected as part of the All-Mountain West squad for three years. Hall wanted more though and further recognition of his efforts saw him selected to play the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup for Europe against the US in 2017 and 2018. Then along came the ultimate amateur accolade the Walker Cup in 2019, his amateur swansong, as he turned professional later that year.

None of the golfers in Cornwall will forget his pairing that year with Rory McIlroy in the Dunhill Championship final round when Hall outshone his playing partner. The then 22-year-old Hall finished tied 15th at the Dunhill on his professional and European Tour debut with his score of 17 under over the four rounds. Hall shared 15th spot with 2019 Open winner Shane Lowry, and finished two shots better off than the European Tour's flagship PGA Championship winner Danny Willett and the four-time major champion McIlroy.

Hall's PGA tour Bio records he began the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour season with conditional status but Monday qualified into the first and third events and played his way up the priority ranking, eventually winning the 2021 Wichita Open Benefitting KU Wichita Pediatrics for fully exempt status in 2022. Hall earned his second victory at this year's NV5 Invitational in Illinois, where he birdied five of the last seven holes of regulation and all three holes of a sudden-death playoff. And Harry got to play in his first major this year the US Open where despite not making the cut he gained invaluable top tier experience.

The Top 25 Korn Ferry Tour players on the season's points list after the weekend's tournament are awarded PGA Tour Cards and with Harry finishing in 17th spot he has the reward his years of hard work so richly deserve.

The Korn Ferry Tour bio continues ' So, even with Hall earning his way to the TOUR for the first time, don’t be surprised if he manages that big stage with aplomb. He’s got a laser-like focus on a big goal, has proven to be a prolific ladder-climber, and has the tools and tricks to stay mentally present after next season’s promotion. And he wants to be remembered at West Cornwall, just like those who came before him.

“Maybe I could get a couple more (majors) but if I can get the Masters, it’ll be a cherry on top. And how good would it be for West Cornwall to have all four majors?” said Hall. “Jim Barnes was just like me. Went to America at 18 years old. Caddied at the club. A long list of legacy there at West Cornwall, and hopefully I can add to it.”

Coach Rowe was one of the first to congratulate Hall tweeting "What a day for West Cornwall Golf Club with Harry Hall earning his PGA Tour badge… like Long Jim (Barnes) , Harry has developed affiliations around the world, and been a fine ambassador for all those who’ve supported his journey. Keep going!"

CGU President Andrew Clotworthy and others took to social media at the news. "Congrats Harry from the County Pres - Very proud of your achievement"

Cornwall County Captain Charlie Phillips tweeted "H delighted for you, well done fella. Love the bit about the English Champion County win…special memories for sure…."
