Seniors Well Beaten in Gloucestershire
The Cornwall Seniors Team were comprehensively beaten in their season opening Seniors Channel League match against Gloucestershire Seniors yesterday at Knowle GC to the tune of 12.5 - 2.5.
Bright spot for the Duchy in the morning greensomes came only in a win for Colin Kitt and Gary Stone. Kitt was undefeated on the day gaining a singles half along with Mark Blaber and Andrew Clotworthy.
County Seniors Captain Paul Clahane was disappointed with the result but said 'Many games were close (5 singles went to the 18th) and could have gone Cornwall’s way, but the writing was on the wall from the Greensomes result in the morning. (4-1) with the Gloucester team starting the day with 3 straight birdies. Knowle Golf club’s greens and the course was presented in an exceptional standard. The local players read the greens and consequently were able to take advantage with the short stick. Home advantage is huge in the Seniors Channel League matches'.
