Bude Are Over 55s Team Champions 2021
On a day where it appeared to be raining in most of Cornwall, Bowood Park GC remained almost entirely untouched and Bude & North Cornwall's Over 55s Team took full advantage ofthe better than forecast weather conditions in claiming this year's Over 55s Team Championship in a 156 player field.
In the pairs betterball competition with three pairs making up a team, the Bude total of 209 was just good enough to see them come out on top of the 26 club team pile on countback from Mullion. For Bude, Adrian Parsons and Gary Stone and Derek Bryant and Nicholas Chaplin returned 69s whilst Mark Hudson and club Manager Mark Jenkins registered a 71.
Mullions Robert Wheeler and Mike Wigley returned the day's best pairs score of 66. Their team mates Wilf Hutchinson and Nick Lunson scored 71 and the third pair of Glynn Coates and Roger Jenkins scored 72.
Third place went to the Trevose team of Trevor Ashton & Graham Hardcastle (69), David Cowan and Mike Ellis (70) and Ian Colwill & Peter Rojano (71) for a team total of 210.
8 shots separated the top 14 teams giving an indication of just how close this popular overall competition was.
Second best nett pairing of the day were David Allen and Richard Hill (Budock Vean) with 67 and third Alan Poole and Chris Pountney (St Mellion) also on 67.
