Falmouth's Juniors have earned themselves a trip to an English National Finals after coming out top of the pile at a very windy Royal North Devon GC yesterday. Conditions were adverse to say the least and the organisers were forced to reduce the scheduled 18 holes to 9 after two hours of play in order to achieve a result.
Pitted against 5 other South West based clubs Falmouth's team of 6 (with the best 5 scores to count) tied with Sherborne (Dorset) on 217 but won out by comparison of the discarded 6th scores. Archie Fox and Isaac D'Bue led the way with nett 41s whilst Will Sercombe and Alex Minter recorded nett 45s. The decisive score for Falmouth came form James Smith with an excellent nett 42. Falmouths discarded score was a nett 50 from James Dempsey which was just the one shot better than his Sherborne counterpart.
Falmouth now head in quick succession to Romanby GC, Yorkshire, next weekend. They will play a practice round on Saturday 11th October before a televised final the following day. We wish them the very best of luck.
