2020 Amateur Championship heading to St Austell

The CGU President Andrew Clotworthy was delighted today to be able to confirm the 2020 Amateur Championship will take place later this year at St Austell Golf Club. The championship will retain its traditional format and will be part of a revised County Week programme. The 2020 County Week had been due to take place last month but was postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Clotworthy said "Great news, the County Championship will take place, thanks to the very kind offer to host by St Austell Golf Club. The Championship will take place during the week beginning on Monday 7th September with a number of the usual County Week events also being run. This is of course subject to any further restrictions that may be applied by relevant governing bodies.

Full details of the September events at St Austell will be announced over the next couple of weeks. There is a lot of work to be done to ensure we can run the event both responsibly, given the current crisis, and successfully for all parties involved. I made it clear when I became President that one of my goals through the Covid crisis, was to be ready to "play county events" when realistic. Well thanks to St Austell GC we can start planning".

The last time the Amateur Championship was played at St Austell was in the club's centenary year - 2011 - when the County Champion was Tom Fox (China Fleet)

***** PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR FURTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS AND DETAILS OF ALL THE EVENTS TO BE PLAYED ****
