CGU Covid-19 Update (23rd March)

The Cornwall Golf Union continues to review upcoming events in light of the COVID-19 crisis.

Further to last week’s message we are now postponing events through to the end of May 2020 and unfortunately this includes the CGU Championship (County Week). We would publicly like to thank all at Newquay GC for the hard work they had already undertaken in advance of the week, as well as their understanding in the current climate.

Looking at the national picture it is highly likely there will be further postponements/cancellations beyond the end of May and indeed there are already some.

Affected competitions/matches are:

U12 Mini Tour Sunday 3rd May – West Cornwall

SCL Cornwall v Gloucestershire Thursday 7th May - Minchinhampton

Cornwall v Royal Navy Saturday 16th May – Tehidy Park

CGU Championship Week 17th - 23rd May – Newquay

CGU U14 & U16 v Devon Tuesday 26th May – Thurlestone

SWCGA U14/U16 Championship Friday 29th May – Mendip Spring

CL Cornwall v Glamorgan Sunday 31st May - Launceston

SWCGA Men’s Championship (SW Week) 6th-12th June – Burnham & Berrow

Regarding County Week 2020 – online entries will be suspended and refunds made to those who have entered and paid using this facility. Please publicise the cancellation to your membership and refer any questions to me. Hopefully we will be able to fulfil a wish to stage a programme of events later in the year and this would include a County Championship.

Regarding the U12 Mini Tour – at this point in time it is hoped these may be able to resume later in the summer. All participants/parents have been so advised and monies will be retained for the time being pending future developments.

Inter County Matches at Junior level (Roy Greenaway U18s, Ben Enoch U16s and Jack Roberts U14s) will be subject of review shortly and we will update further in due course.

Channel League and Seniors Channel League matches have been subject of some further debate and it is hoped to confirm the exact position for the remainder of the season shortly.

At this stage we can only hope of a resumption to the golfing calendar in the not too distant future. We will of course keep you updated as things evolve. If in the meantime there is anything we can do to assist in any way, then please do not hesitate to ask.
