Cornwall started their 2011 Channel League game with a tricky away game against neighbours Devon at East Devon Golf Club last Sunday. Near perfect weather conditions greeted the players for the start of the morning foursomes and although for a period of time Cornwall led in most of the games they only had a 3&2 win for Ben Westgate & Steve Chapman over Ryan Fricker & Adam Bridgewater and a half from Billy Downing & Rob Macgregor with David Blick & Damien Gee to show for their efforts as Devon led 3½ - 1½ at lunch. Cornish hopes were raised in the afternoon with early singles wins from Antony Nash, 2Up over James Dimond and Ben Westgate, 4&3 over Adam Bridgewater but in the end could only add one more win from Joe Cruse in the last match, 2&1 over Tom Woodhouse and a half from Steve Chapman with Ryan Fricker. In the end it was disappointment for Cornwall as Devon ran out worthy 10 – 5 winners. Cornwall will be in action again soon when they take on Wiltshire in the Channel League on Sunday 17th April at Newquay.
