Online Entry for Cornwall Amateur Championship 2024 Rd 1

Wednesday 15th May 2024

The Cornwall Amateur Championship Qualifier will be played over 36 holes.
The Entry Fee is £30.

An entrant for the Cornwall Amateur Golf Championship must be:
a) a member of a club affiliated to the Cornwall Golf Union, or
b) born in Cornwall and a member of an affiliated club in another County, and
c) not have taken part in a golf championship of another county or have played for another County in representative matches, including friendly matches, during the same calendar year.

The Championship will comprise two sections:
1. Qualifying
This will take place on Wednesday of County Week and will be over 36 holes stroke play, with the field limited to 72 players. If the entry exceeds this number at the closing date (two weeks beforehand) then the players with the highest playing handicap would be balloted out and placed on a reserve list. A player entering the championship must be available to play in the match play stages on Thursday to Saturday.
2. Matchplay
The Players with the 32 lowest scores returned from the qualifying round will proceed to the match play stages. Ties for the last match play qualifying place will be decided by a sudden death stroke play play-off. In the event of a play-off for places in the last 32, successful players will be placed in the draw in positions determined by their finishing position in the 36-hole qualifier.

The top 4 qualifiers will be seeded and placed into a draw. The remaining qualifiers will be drawn at random for places for the first round of the match play stages.

If for any reason a qualifier cannot play in the match play stage a bye will be placed in the draw.

The match play stages will be conducted over 18 holes, with extra holes if necessary, except for the final which shall be played over 36 holes, with extra holes if necessary, to decide the winner.

No entries will be accepted after the closing date, which will be one week prior to commencement and payment must have been made at this point.

CGU Tee Markers in use

Please note: The CGU has adopted a General Play Entry policy which will apply to the Cornwall Amateur Championship, where over-subscribed:

1. Eligibility
In order to enter the Cornwall Amateur Championship an entrant must be:
In possession of an individual up-to-date Handicap Index® under the World Handicapping System™.

An entry may be refused if, in the opinion of the Championship Committee, a players Handicap Index is not reflective of their playing ability. This decision may be based on but is not limited to:

(a) a handicap record (most recent 20 scores) that contains more than 4 (four) General Play scores,
(b) a handicap record (most recent 20 scores) that contains less than 4 (four) Competition Scores,
(c) an incomplete handicap record where fewer than 20 scores have been returned.
The Cornwall Golf Union reserves the right to contact the Club Handicap Committee to highlight the returning of General Play scores.

2. Review Process (General Play)
2.1. The CGU will conduct a report on all the entrants of the championship to indicate those that have more than 4 General Play scores within their handicap record (last 20 scores).

2.2. Those handicap records that have more than 4 General Play scores will then be further assessed to determine the difference between their Competition Score differential and the General Play differential.
2.3. In a situation where this comparison results in a differential of more than 2 strokes (General Play lower than Competition differential) then the entrant will be notified and informed that their entry into the championship has been denied.
2.4. The CGU will notify the home club that an entry has been refused into a championship under this policy and that a review of the submission of General Play scores should be considered.

3. Review Process (Incomplete record or Minimal Competition Scores)
3.1. The CGU will conduct a report on all the entrants of the championship to indicate those that have a handicap record containing either less than 20 scores or a record that contains less than 4 competition scores.
3.2. The CGU may obtain further information on the player’s ability. This includes, but is not limited to, contacting the player’s current or previous home club.
3.3. Where evidence suggests that due to an incomplete record or lack of competition scores a player’s handicap index differs to their current playing ability then an entry may be refused.

4. Resubmission of Entry
A resubmission of an entry into the championship will be accepted prior to the closing date for entries subject to the handicap record no longer meeting the criteria identified in 1 above.
This competition requires that fees be paid to complete entry. If the payment process is not completed, your entry may be removed.
