Cornwall moved up to second in the Channel League after a comfortable 10 – 5 win against Gwent at Truro yesterday.
The morning foursomes was a tight affair with 3 matches going down the 18th but crucially Cornwall won all of them and lead 4 – 1 at lunch.
The afternoon singles saw Antony Nash and Aaron Stephens lose out in the top two matches as Gwent narrowed the deficit to 4 – 3 but Cornwall’s advantage was soon restored with big wins for Tom Murtagh 5&3 over Alistair Mason and Conor Wilson 6&5 over Julian Samson. The ever reliable Steve Chapman won 2&1 which left the stage clear for local player George Champion to secure the win for Cornwall with a 3&2 victory over Olly Mottram. Further wins for Josh Greenaway and the impressive Joe Cruse saw a final score of Cornwall 10 Gwent 5
Cornwall’s next game is on Sunday 31st July when they travel to Neath Golf Club to take on Glamorgan
