  • Cornwall Golf Union General Meeting Thurs 26th November Lanhydrock Hotel & GC 7.00pm

Welcome to the
Cornwall Golf Union

Welcome to the Cornwall Golf Union Web Site where you can find information on the county golf scene with details of Events, News, Fixtures, Results, Teams and much more.

The Cornwall Golf Union was founded in 1901 and exists to promote and retain the traditions and rules of the ancient amateur game of Golf within the Duchy. We currently have 33 affiliated member clubs and details of all of these can be found within the website. In turn the County Union is affiliated to England Golf which administers the interests of amateur golfers across the country.

We maintain a liaison between the affiliated clubs and England Golf with the facility to answer any question relating to golf in general as well as specific and diverse club related matters. The CGU is responsible for the course rating of its affiliated clubs and this is an ongoing process with repeat visits dependent on course alterations etc. The Union is responsible for the maintenance of the CONGU Unified Handicapping System on behalf of its members and acts as a focal point of contact and authority on Player Handicap issues as well as issues surrounding the Rules of Golf.

The CGU promotes the development and administration of golf within the County at Mens, Junior and Senior Level as well as County representation at a wider level. We manage teams in both the Men’s and Seniors Channel Leagues and participate in the SWCGA Championships at all levels. We have U14, U16 and U18 Junior teams who compete against other regional counties. We actively promote the development of youngsters in golf with coaching programmes designed to identify those with exceptional ability and potential as well as those with less.

The CGU organises championships and tournaments each year and these are open to all our affiliated members. These in turn serve to raise the standard and profile of the game in the County. We stage an annual 7 day ‘County Week’ with daily competitions, the major one being the Cornwall Amateur Championship. We also hold an Annual Dinner again open to all affiliated members and at which there is the opportunity to celebrate the year’s achievements.

We work with the Cornwall Golf Partnership to access various external funding sources to increase participation in golf in the county

The Cornwall Golf Union runs a County Card Scheme which allows members the opportunity to play golf at over 200 courses in the South West area, whilst at the same time earning revenue for the county and its clubs.

So if you are a member or just visiting our beautiful county to play golf we hope you find the site useful and informative.

The Cornwall Golf Union receives sponsorship - see below - from a variety of business linked to the county. Ocean BMW Falmouth,TMS Financial in Penzance and Truro and Golf International Magazine with its office at Trevose. As a Union we are proud to be associated with all of our sponsors and are very grateful to them for their support of Golf in Cornwall.
