Final & League stages
Cornwall lost out by the narrowest of margins in their last match in the Jack Roberts Sheild. Leading 2-1 after the foursomes it was looking good for Cornwall to secure the win which would win the sheild but Somerset rallied in the afternoon singles to snatch overall victory by 1 point.
The match was actually played using 8 players but due to the league rules only 3 foursomes and 6 singles could count for the league result, Ironically Cornwall won these other matches and recorded a 7-5 win!
The Under 14’s staged a brave fight back against Devon to salvage a half in their Jack Roberts U14 SW League match on Friday at Trethorne.
With only a half point to show from the morning foursomes Cornwall won 4 out of the 6 afternoon singles to draw the match.
It was Cornwall’s second draw in the league and leaves them just behind leaders Devon with one match left against Somerset on 22nd August.
Cornwall’s U16 team were left to reflect on a disappointing performance in the morning foursomes against Devon which enabled the visitors to gain a 3 point advantage which they were able to maintain at the end of the match.
Cornwall juniors finished in a disappointing 6th place in the SWCGA Boys Championship at Ferndown Golf Club yesterday.
Devon helped by sub par rounds from Jimmy Mullen and Harrison Greenberry eased to victory by 7 shots over Dorset and will now go forward to the English Finals at Luffenham Heath in August.
Cornwall's best player on the day was Chris Fleming who shot 74 - 74 for a 6 over par 148. The best round of the day from a Cornish player was Harry Hall's afternoon score of 73

60 of the best juniors in the county competed in the County Junior Championships at Newquay Golf Club yesterday.

Conditions proved to be just as testing for the players in the afternoon with Chris adding a 74 to his morning 71 for a total of 145 to win the title by 4 shots from Taylor and Yorke who tied second on 149.
Harry Hall the promising 13 year old from West Cornwall won the Under 16 Championship with a total of 151winning by 2 shots from Sam Church of China Fleet.
