Week Ending Cornwall Win Dents Dorset Hopes

Cornwall finished off the 2019 SWCGA Championship Week with another good win defeating Matchplay Shield contenders Dorset.

Trailing 5-3 after the morning singles the Duchy again produced excellent foursomes play to pull off what was perhaps an unlikely win bearing in mind Dorset's unbeaten status and the fact the latter were chasing a first win in the shield for over 40 years.

The morning singles winners for Cornwall were George Leigh, who came from 3 holes down with 5 to play to beat Andy Rideout, Kieran Faulkner (2 up) and Richard Jasper (2&1).

The foursomes pairings for Cornwall again proved the stronger as we won 3 and halved the other. Matt Richards and Joe Reynard who were unbeaten as a pair all week won 2&1, Jasper and Leigh won3&2 and Conor Wilson and Rob MacGregor, also unbeaten all week won 4&3. Josh Greenaway and Aaron Stephens secured the halved match.

All in all this was a good week for Cornwall who finished 3rd in the Matchplay Shield with the defeat of Dorset promoting Gloucestershire to Shield winners.
