Frank Wills and Cornish Bowl Finalists Revealed

Both the Frank Wills Salver and Cornish Bowl finalists were finalised this weekend.

First of all on Saturday, Whitsand Bay saw off the challenge of Trethorne in the previously postponed Cornish Bowl match at Bude & N Cornwall GC. Whitsand Bay will now face Launceston in the final, with the latter having overcome West Cornwall 3 - 2 at Trevose the previous weekend. For Launceston it came down to the very last match which was resolved at the 2nd extra hole, when Chris James and Darren Chapman prevailed against Nick Allen and Brian Joy.

Then yesterday the two Frank Wills Salver semi finals were played in extremely tough windy and cold conditions. At Mullion, Carlyon Bay pipped West Cornwall by a 3-2 margin whilst over at West Cornwall, the same scoreline saw Perranporth overcome St Austell.

For Carlyon Bay the last match was key, with the scores level overall at 2-2, and for the South Coast side Wayne Crocker and Neil Husband secured the win as they finished 1 up through the 18 holes on Andrew Boon and Matthew Hudson. Other wins for Carlyon Bay came from Duncan Powell and Martin Bullock (4&3 over Keith Nash & Kevin Veal), and Jason Gay and Kevin Martin (also 4&3 over the father and son pairing of Mark and Ross Hutchings). For West Cornwall the consolation wins came from Rod Jenkin and Lee Bushby (2&1 over Mark Bennellick and Martin Quantick) and Andrew Hitchens and Adam Barber (1 up on Jeff Hammett and Mark Rowe).

Perranporth took the three middle order matches against St Austell to secure their place in the final with Paul Matthews and Ken Mason (2&1), Martin Edwards and Gareth Evans (3&2) and Graham Burns and Club Captain Peter Naish (5&3) their winning pairs.

Both finals will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2019 at St Enodoc GC with the Frank Wills Salver over 36 holes from 8.00am that day. The 18 hole Cornish Bowl final commences at 8.40am.
