Current Cornish County Champion Conor Wilson (Perranporth) proved to be the best of the Cornish representatives who made the long trip to Woodhall Spa to take part in the England Golf Champion of Champions events staged over the weekend at the headquarters of the National Governing Body. Sadly the weather played a large part ion the weekend's proceedings with the course affected by both heavy rains and then - as if to rub it in - fog also. The championship for Mens County Champions, due to be played over 36 holes on the Hotchkin course at Woodhall, was reduced to just 18 holes after fog delayed the start of play by three hours.
Wilson finished tied 6th with two others after a one under par round of 72 made up of five birdies and four bogies. Lincolnshire’s Simon Richardson pulled off an astonishing final-hole birdie to shoot four under par 69 and win the tournament by a stroke.
In the Seniors Champion of Champions Simon Harper (St Austell) finished tied 19th in a field of 29 on a total of 164 after rounds of 86 and a much improved second of 78. The winner was Trevor Foster (Lancashire) on an 8 under par total of 138 (71 + 67).
Simon Hobbs (Bowood Park) competed in the Boys Champion of Champions competition and finished in the penultimate spot after a round of 10 over par 83. This event also scheduled for 36 holes was reduced to 18 after heavy rains flooded the course. The winner after a play off was Kent's Jacob Kelso with a 3 under par 70.
