One and All hoped it would happen. Some knew it would happen and that it was just a matter of time. Whichever, it came to pass (for us in the early hours of Sunday morning) as Cornwall's very own Harry Hall claimed his maiden full PGA Tour title with a win at the Isco Championship staged at Keene Trace GC, Kentucky.
In this co-sanctioned PGA Tour and DP World Tour event he did it in style with a chip in for birdie from 45 feet on the third hole of a playoff to win. After rounds of 66, 67 and an excellent 64 Harry was -19 and closed with a 3 under 69 to get into a 5 man playoff with all of those involved seeking their first win.
Hall, 26, a West Cornwall GC member scrambled for par on the par-4 18th on the first extra hole, driving well left into the long grass, hitting into the front greenside bunker and blasting out to a foot. He stayed alive when Matt NeSmith's 8-foot birdie try slid by to the right.
On the next trip down 18 in the playoff, Hall, NeSmith and Pierceson Coody all missed birdie putts, with NeSmith the closest at 12 feet.
Hall ended it on the 209-yard, par-3 ninth. Hitting first after all three went long into the rough, the 6-foot-4 former University of Nevada and Las Vegas player got his chip from the right side to fall before NeSmith and Coody missed their attempts from behind the hole.
The win comes at the start of a week when Hall's wife Jordan is expecting the couple's first child, a daughter. Harry's win will permit him a week off and he can now be at home when due to his pre tournament FedEx Cup position he felt he would have to be playing week in week out in an effort to get into the end of season events. Picking up 300 FedEx Cup points a and a cool $720,000 will make all the difference. For those who like a flutter Hall started the week with odds of 4500-1.
This season Harry has played in 19 events and has made the cut in 13 of them, The Isco win sees him move to 80th in the FedEx Cup rankings and to 100th spot in the Official World Golf rankings. It also offers Harry the opportunity to play more events across the world including on the DP World Tour and closer to these shores - something he would very much like to do. He now has exemptions into the 2025 editions of The Sentry, The Players Championship and the PGA Championship. He's also now exempt as a member in the winners category through 2026.
Harry turned professional in 2019 and played on the Korn Ferry Tour from 2020 to 2022. He won twice on that Tour; at the 2021 Wichita Open and the 2022 NV5 Invitational. This led to a PGA Tour card for the 2022-23 season where he retained his card.
Harry's win unsurprisingly brought congratulations on social media from across the county and the golfing globe. And in the press conference after the win (see below) Harry made special mention of the then UNLV assistant coach Phil Rowe, his beloved West Cornwall Golf club, his new caddie Brian Zeigler and visits he has recently made to Butch Harmon.
