Its a Cruse for Joe at The Closed

'Cruser' beams at The Point at Polzeath

Former long term County Team member now Professional Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) demonstrated yet again his inordinate talent as he swept to a win in Sunday's Cornish Closed Championship at The Point at Polzeath GC.

A 10 birdie haul in a first round 65 (-7) gave him a 7 shot lead after the first 18 holes and another good round of 68 (-4) saw him comfortably win one of the trophies which has eluded him over the years with an overall total of 133 (-11). Another former county team member also turned Pro Adam Curtis (Bude & N Cornwall) was runner up with rounds of & 71 and 69 for a -4 total of 140, seven shots behind Cruse.

Low amateur honours were claimed by another former county player Richard Ackland (St Mellion) on a one over par total of 145 after rounds of 73 & 72.

Harry Macauley (Bude & N Cornwall) took 4th place overall with a 146 gross total with a pair of 73s and this gained him the U21 Championship title by one shot from Jack Kevern (West Cornwall) who scored 74 + 73. Thomas Stephens (Trevose) was third in the U21 category with rounds of 72 + 76.

In the nett competition the winner was Ryan Gregory (St Mellion) with nett rounds of 66 + 69 for a 135 (-9) total, 4 shots ahead of Ackland who in turn was one shot better than Kevern.
