Update on County Fixtures 2021

Channel League

At a recent Channel League meeting chaired by the CGU President Andrew Clotworthy and involving representatives of the 7 participating counties, there was agreement that for this year only both the Men’s and Seniors Channel Leagues be split into two groups.

The two groups will be:

CL (South): Cornwall, Devon & Somerset

CL (North): Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Gwent & Wiltshire.

All counties will play each other home and away with the traditional 36-hole format (Seniors 27-holes) and the group winners will meet in a Final to be arranged after the group matches have been completed. The final to be played on a suitable neutral venue.

Men’s Channel League and SWCGA Fixtures are arranged as follows:

01.08.2021 Channel League v Somerset at Enmore Park

05.09.2021 Channel League v Somerset at Bude & N Cornwall

12.09.2021 Channel League v Devon at Yelverton

It was agreed the SCL would follow the CL decision and format for 2021 with the same groups, home and away matches over 27 holes and a final also. The 9-hole element of the SCL matches will be in a greensomes format.

South Western Counties Golf Association

The SWCGA Executive Committee met on 25th February to discuss its planned events for 2021

The U14/U16 Championship will take place at Mendip Spring GC on 4th June 2021

The Men’s SW Week will at present go ahead between 5th & 11th June 2021 at Burnham & Berrow GC. A final decision on the staging of this event will be made in mid April.

The SW Boys Championship will take place at Salisbury & S Wilts GC on 8th July 2021

The SW Seniors Championship will take place on 19th & 20th July at Ferndown GC

Other

The Men’s Team fixture against the Royal Navy due to be played at West Cornwall GC on 17th April 2021 has been cancelled.

The Men’s team have been entered into the 36-hole Burnham Salver competition at Burnham & Berrow GC on Sunday 2nd May 2021. It is confirmed the competition will take place, but Cornish participation remains in doubt due to the ongoing restrictions and in particular the fact hotel accommodation is precluded.

The Junior South West Four Counties event due to be staged at Exeter G&CC on 8th April 2021 has been cancelled. It is hoped the event can be re-staged at the same venue in 2022.

The Junior Spring Meeting scheduled for 29th March 2021 at Whitsand Bay has been moved back to Sunday 25th April at the same venue. The Junior Autumn Meeting will now take place on Monday 25th October at Mullion GC.

As advised previously County Week will take place at Truro GC between 12th & 18th September 2021. Entries for the respective competitions will open at the start of June 2021.

Online entries can already be made for several other Men’s, Seniors and Juniors events and these are listed under Future Tournaments on the home page.

Entry forms for CGU Team competitions will be circulated to clubs in the coming days.

Updates on further competition matters will be advised to the CGU General Meeting on Thursday 25th March 2021.
