England Golf – CEO’s Letter re R&A Funding for Clubs

In agreement with The R&A, a sum of £2,555,000 has been made available to clubs in England hit hard by the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

As part of our latest collaboration with The R&A, England Golf will take on responsibility for administering and distributing all monies.

I’m very pleased to say that, after an inclusive and transparent consultation process with counties, clubs and voting members around application criteria, we are now in a position to lay out the following timeline:

• Online applications open on Wednesday 8 July

• The deadline for applications is Friday 31 July.

• Clubs may apply for a grant up to a maximum of £10,000

• Applicants will be informed of the outcome from w/c 24 August

• Funds will be distributed during September.

On behalf of everyone at England Golf and our affiliated members, I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to The R&A for their backing.

Their ongoing commitment to the club and amateur game during this very testing period in our beloved sport’s history cannot be overstated.

The over-arching aim of this fund is to provide short-term financial support to clubs and facilities as they develop a resilient business strategy and plan for future sustainability.

The fund is concentrated on current operations to enable clubs and facilities to adapt and offer the safest and best possible experience for golfers.

We fully recognise that a great many clubs and facilities could do with a financial helping hand at this time.

Consequently, we will look to support as many applications as possible with priority given to those applicants who have a clear financial need and can outline an ongoing impact from grants received.

In keeping with our ongoing drive to ensure golf is played in a secure environment and promoted as a sport for all to enjoy, applicants to the fund will also be expected to show commitment to our safeguarding and equality policies.

Going forward, affiliated golf clubs and facilities will receive an email on Wednesday 8 July which will include full details on criteria, conditions and specifics on how to apply.

I look forward to welcoming these applications and working together with all clubs and facilities in planning for the future.
