Following the success of last year’s inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship in Cornwall, the Staysure Tour has confirmed the tournament’s presence on its 2020 schedule. And there are opportunities for you to be a part of it!

Returning to Trevose Golf & Country Club in Cornwall, the four-day event will see some of the most iconic names in golf take on the picturesque and challenging course just five miles west of Padstow between June 18-21.

Last summer marked the championship’s successful debut on Europe’s over-50s tour, which saw Frenchman Jean-François Remésy scoop the title and a €50,000 first prize.

Nick Gammon, managing director at Trevose, said: “Everyone at Trevose Golf and Country Club is delighted that the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship is returning to the Staysure Tour this year. Last year’s event was a roaring success, and it was fantastic to see so many golfing legends playing out on our course.

“We are excited to welcome back several Ryder Cup and Major-winning players as we look to make the 2020 edition even bigger and better than last year. The team here at Trevose is already working extremely hard in preparation for the event.”

Ian Woosnam returns as event host and some of the star names likely to play include Paul Lawrie, Paul McGinley, Costantino Rocca, Peter Baker and Jean van de Velde.

The second of a three-year agreement the event will be promoted by event organisers Champions (UK) plc. The East Midlands-based brand agency launched the event in 2019 and promotes fellow Staysure Tour event, the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, as well as the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

Champions’ director of sport, Tim Munton, said: “Trevose is one of the most beautiful golfing locations in the UK, and it is no surprise that last year’s inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship proved such a success. Topping that won’t be easy, but we’re looking forward to seeing who comes out on top this year with another stellar list of players already being lined up.”

A number of event partners have also come on board, including the Rick Stein Group. It was announced earlier this year that the Padstow-based company became an event partner to the event, which will see the group’s Chef Director Jack Stein create a pop-up food stand on the course offering spectators delicious food to eat on the go while watching the golfing action.

So how can you qualify to partner a legend as part of the event – well there are two different ways:

The Pro-Am Qualifier

A team of three players will win the chance to partner a legend of golf at this year’s Championship Pro-Am on 18 June. This amazing prize is worth £2000 and includes all day VIP treatment and a superb evening of food, drink and entertainment. 2nd and 3rd placed teams will also win some great prizes.

The Qualifier will take place on Sunday 5 April 2020 at Trevose Golf & Country Club in teams of three with the best 2 nett scores from 3 players per hole in stableford format. If scores are tied, card countback will come into effect. The handicap allowance is 90% with limits of 24 for men and 30 for ladies. Prizes will be awarded to the winners as well as runners up and third spot. The cost is £180 per team (£140 for Trevose members) and also includes coffee and bacon roll on arrival. To enter the Pro-Am Qualifier, you should email the names of the players, golf club and handicaps to David Cowan at dcowan@trevose-gc.co.uk

The Alliance Qualifier

This option is for two players to play in this year’s Championship Alliance competition on 19 and 20 June. This prize is worth an incredible £4000 and includes the following:
The winning pair will each partner a ‘legend of golf’ for two rounds of 18 holes on Friday and Saturday of the tournament. On both days there will be complimentary buffet breakfast, lunch and drinks in players’ lounge. There will also be an informal drinks reception on completion of play on Saturday.

Again, the handicap allowance is 90% with limits of 24 for men and 30 for ladies. Prizes will be awarded to the winners as well as runners up and third spot. The cost is £200 per pair (£140 for Trevose members) and also includes coffee and bacon roll on arrival.
