Yesterday saw the completion of the CGU Winter Knockout semi finals and just in the nick of time too with the first of the finals due next weekend.
The Cornwall Team Championship final 2020 will be contested between Duchy North Coast rivals Trevose and St Enodoc. Trevose yesterday saw off St Austell (11.25-1.5) whilst St Enodoc were involved in a much tighter match with Tehidy Park before coming out on top (7.5-5.25). Trevose have won the CTC on 13 occasions, the last being in 2015, whilst St Enodoc have been victors just twice (2011 and 2013) in the competition’s 67-year history.
Meanwhile the President’s Trophy competition, which began in 2013, will see last year’s winners West Cornwall take on Mullion. The latter had a very close match with Carlyon Bay which finished 4.5 all before their nominated sudden death player Jason Peters beat Dave Saget at the 2nd extra hole. West Cornwall beat Lanhydrock 7.5-1.5.
The CTC and President’s Trophy Finals will take place at Perranporth GC on Sunday 15th March 2020. The CTC will commence at 8.00am with the President's Trophy following at 9.00am.
Before then though the Frank Wills Salver and Cornish Bowl Finals will take place at St Enodoc GC on Sunday 1st March 2020. The Frank Wills match will commmence at 8.00am and the Bowl encounter from 8.40am.
With the two Frank Wills semis postponed over the previous two weekends courtesy of Storms Ciara and Dennis, yesterday was the last opportunity to get them played without disrupting the finals day. Thankfully both were played despite testing conditions prevailing. 2018 winners The Point at Polzeath beat Newquay 3-2 at Trevose with the outcome decided at the first extra hole. In the other match last year’s winners Perranporth beat Tehidy Park 4-1. The final will be contested over 36 holes.
The Cornish Bowl final line up was completed previously and in that match Launceston will face Truro. The Bowl competition began in 1989 and since then both clubs have won the competition twice. Launceston achieved back to back victories in 1998 & 1999, whilst Truro won first in 1994 and then again in 2016.
