[County Seniors Captain Paul Clahane reports]

After a great start Cornwall failed to match the fantastic play of the morning where they had taken a 3-2 lead after the greensomes. There were morning wins for Mark Blaber & Kevin Mula, Steve Barns & Malcolm Edmunds as well as Warwick Holland & Richard Jones.

The afternoon 10 singles were contested in very hot and windy conditions and despite great performances from Mark Blaber (5&4 winner) Colin Kitt (4&3 winner) Richard Jones (half) and Charlie Phillips (half) the Devon team proved too strong on the day.

No excuses were offered by the Captain however it should be noted that five  of the first team regulars were unavailable.

The course condition and greens were in amazing condition considering the extremely hot weather and strong drying winds ,well done green staff.

The bar and catering staff led by Clare along with golf Professional Jack and the Lady Captain made us most welcome and provided excellent  facilities thank you Thurlestone.

Next up is the South Western Counties Golf Association Seniors Championship over two day stroke play at Bristol and Clifton on 20th & 21st July.

Cornwall will be hoping to show their true  potential there.
