On a beautiful late summers day Cornwall Seniors hosted Gloucestershire at Newquay GC on what was the final match of the season for both teams.

In the morning 4BBB matches both lead matches went the way of the visitors with the pairings of Michael Wigley & Duncan Powell and David O’Mahony & Colin Ross loosing 2 & 1.  Wins in the final three matches from Rod Frost & Phil Bott 2 & 1, Mike Marshall & Simon Harper 3 & 2 and David Goodman & Alan Poole 1 up, saw Cornwall leading 3 – 2 at lunch.

The afternoon singles started with halved matches from the lead players, Michael Wigley and Colin Ross but of the remaining matches the only success was from David Goodman 2 & 1 and Phil Bott 2 & 1.  Three of the matches were decided on the 18^th but in all the afternoon was lost 7 to 3, with an overall loss 9 to 6.

A disappointing end to the 2014 campaign, which included being runners-up in the Southwest Counties Seniors Championship with a total of 758 to Gloucestershire’s 757. With several new players in the squad, and a further number who will be eligible by next year, we look forward to improving our position during 2015.
