On Sunday 13th March 2011 at West Cornwall Golf Club, Cornwall played their Annual match against the Royal Navy . With a slight departure from previous team selection Cornwall fielded a mixed team of County senior players with some up and coming talent provided by the County juniors and as the County President Gerry Fitter commented afterwards it proved a success and gave the juniors in the side some valuable experience playing with and against more senior players. With the weather dry and sunny and a cold wind blowing from the Northeast Cornwall took an early lead in the morning foursomes by 4 matches to 1 following this with a 7 ½ to 2 ½ win in the singles in the afternoon. Some noteable achievements in the single matches were Chris Fleming who beat the Navy Captain Scott Gilbert 2/1 and Tom Fox who beat Alec Kippen on the 18th hole. The CGU President Gerry Fitter thanked West Cornwall Golf Club for hosting the match and wished the Navy the best of luck in the forthcoming season. Scott Gilbert Navy Captain responded by congratulating Cornwall on their win and thanking everyone at West Cornwall Golf Club for making the Navy team feel so welcome.
