Cornwall ended their 2011 Channel League season with a resounding win over Gloucestershire at Perranporth on Sunday.
Blustery conditions provided a stern test for all the players but Cornwall got off to a fine start and after the morning foursomes lead 4½ - 1½.
As the wind picked up further in the afternoon it was much of the same from the Cornwall team winning seven singles and halving one. The performance of the day came from Cornwall stalwart Steve Chapman who in recording a 5&4 win over Gloucestershire’s Jake Phillips in his singles match made 4 birdies and an eagle and was 6 under par when his game finished on the 14th hole.
The overall match score in the end was Cornwall 12 Gloucestershire 3. The win means that Cornwall finish runners up in the league with just a point less than Somerset who were the only team to remain unbeaten in the league season.
Cornwall have this year achieved their highest finish in the league for some years and following the match the County President Gerry Fitter congratulated all the players, caddies, officials and supporters who had contributed to a successful campaign.
