Whilst most of Cornwall Golf was supporting Rhys Enoch from Truro Golf Club as he was taking on the worlds best players at Carnoustie during the 147th Open Championships there was another Professional representing Cornwall at the same location. A short distance away from the TV cameras and the drama which saw one of the most exciting Opens in recent years unfold, was a carefully selected elite group of highly qualified and experienced PGA Professionals delivering thousands of free golf lessons to the record crowds attending.

Among the coaches over the week was Cornwall Golf’s very own Matt Tucknott PGA Advanced Golf Professional, who seems to be collecting more and more accolades and responsibilities all the time. As Director of Cornwall Junior Golf Development, Director of Golf at Radnor Golf & Leisure and most recently appointed Club Professional at Killiow Golf, Matt has become a master of facilitating golf development opportunities at all of his business interests including helping the PGA showcase theirs at the Open at this premier International event.

“The Open is the best place for PGA Professionals to show off our skills to the public,” said Tucknott. “I was really excited to have been chosen again to be a part of the great team of top professionals who have travelled from all parts of the UK to take part. Personally I drove over 700 miles to get to Carnoustie but it’s worth it as it is one of the best weeks in my year and goes so quickly once you start coaching”

“Working with other top class PGA Professionals allows us all to watch and learn from one another, after all, we are all just like the pupils we coach in as much as we are all developing new skills all of the time. It’s also great to feel I am giving something back for all the great times I have had in my golf career so far and seeing people going off having had an enjoyable lesson with a smile on their face is just a super feeling.”

Dr Jonathan Wright, Golf Development Executive at The PGA, added: “The Open Swingzone is a great opportunity for us to showcase the valuable role and skills of a PGA Professional. The PGA also used the Open Championships to launch it's #WeLoveGolf campaign which will look to inspire as many people as possible to take up and continue playing the game.”
