Hall Flying High at UNLV

Monday 12th March 2018

Cornwall’s Harry Hall (West Cornwall) has had a very good couple of weeks across the pond as he continues with his stint at the University of Nevada and Las Vegas.

With an ongoing series of inter collegiate golf his UNLV Rebels team first finished in fourth place, 5 shots off the lead,  at the Southern Highlands Collegiate tournament last week with Hall himself placed second individually in an event which  featured one of the toughest fields in all of college golf.

The individual winner in the 81 man field was the University of Southern California’s Justin Suh with an 8-under par total of 208 after a final-round 2-under 70 with Hall finishing a career best runner up on a 6 under total of 210. Harry was 3 under in his final round, signing for a 69, which contained three birdies and was bogey free. His final round was preceded by an earlier 69 and a level par 72. For the week he tallied eight birdies with just two bogeys in what was his best finish of the year in eight events.

Hall’s performance led to him being recognized as the Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week. This was his first weekly accolade of the season and the third of his career.

Then on Saturday (10th March) the UNLV men’s golf team shot a tournament-low 25-under 263 during Saturday's final round to win the team title at the Jackrabbit Invitational, which was played at Boulder Creek Golf Club (par 72, 7402 yards).

The Rebels, who trailed the leaders by four shots after 36 holes on Friday, ended up winning the event by five shots at 35-under 829. Hall was again a contributor to the team success as he finished 14th individual with rounds of 73, 74 and 69 for a level par total overall.

The UNLV victory was the second of the spring for UNLV after clinching the team title at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona, in February.

Hall is now a candidate to play in his second consecutive Arnold Palmer Cup representing the International team. He is currently ranked eighth among the international players being considered.  Ironically his UNLV team mate Shintaro Ban is likely to be player in the Cup match for the American team. The Palmer Cup teams will be announced later this week.
