Tehidy Finish T4th in Champion Club

Monday 25th September 2017

English Champion Club 23rd/24th Septenber 2017 East Devon GC

The three man team from Tehidy Park GC finished in a tied 4th position after two days of the English Champion Club event at East Devon GC over the weekend.

A solid first day had seen the trio of Matt Lock, Ian Veale and Rob MacGregor finish in a tie for 3rd spot on a combined total of 226 and six shots behind day one leaders Kings Lynn GC on 220. For Tehidy Lock returned a 78, Veale a 77 and MacGregor a one over par 71. With all three scores to count there was all to play for on day two.

Their second day push for improvement saw them maintain their position and begin to challenge for honours until with just 4 holes to complete their efforts were thwarted as fog - pictured above - caused a suspension of play. Although the conditions improved allowing a resumption of play the light then intervened and the team finished in what were described as very dark conditions,Lock finished with a 77 , MacGregor a 74 and Veale wwith a 75 to give the team an identical total to day one and an overall total of 452 along with Lincolnshire's Spalding GC, Kent's Rochester & Cobham and Kings Lynn GC who faded on day 2.

In second place on day 1 were the City of Newcastle GC representing Northumberland on 221. They however produced an excellent 210 total to finish at 11 over par on 431. Second place was claimed by Northamptonshire County GC on 445 and third spot went to Somerset's Burnham & Berrow on 449.

The winning team from the City of Newcastle included Phil Ridden who this week will represent his county in the English County Finals at Trevose GC. Burnham & Berrow's team included Somerset County Captain Justin Lane and Phil White who will both also be at Trevose.
