Rowe Finishes Well

Saturday 10th June 2017

England Golf Senior Men's Open Amateur Championship Saunton Golf Club 7 - 9 June 2017

Cornwall County Seniors Team Vice Captain Andy Rowe (Looe) was the only Duchy survivor to make the cut in the England Golf Senior Men's Open Amateur Championship at Saunton GC this week. The event was dogged by bad weather with high winds and rain making for very difficult conditions.

Six Cornish based seniors set out in a 288 man field playing both the East and West courses at the high profile North Devon club and only Rowe was able to achieve a two round score which saw him make the third and final round of just 80 players. Rowe shot rounds of 78 and 76 to get himself into the final round in a tie for 65th spot.

Rowe saved his best round until last shooting a 75 which saw him move up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for a very creditable 40th spot on a total of 229 (+16).

The winner was Doug Cameron (Henley) on 217 (+4).

The five other Cornish seniors who missed the cut were County Seniors Captain Simon Harper (St Austell), Charlie Phillips (Newquay), Malcolm Edmunds, Neil Hodding (West Cornwall) and Colin Ross (Falmouth).
